Robotautomatiseret skift af både emner, ordrer, værktøj og bakker hos HydraSpecma

Take a tour of the production hall at HydraSpecma and hear Production Manager, Peter Larsen, talk about the latest automation solution from QRS and MASENTIA in the videos.

FACTSHEETS

HydraSpecma needed a robotic cell that could handle and process 3 different part types, as well as handle automated order changes, as production of the 3 part types needed to be kept running unmanned.

We provided the solution, in collaboration with MASENTIA, consisting of a 120 kg KUKA robot on an 11 metre long track, 20 different part grippers, a washing machine, part infeed and outfeed conveyor, safety grid with operator access via light grid, turning station, straightening station and tool magazine for 16 tools and shelving for 80 tray sets.

The robot handles workpieces in and out of a Nakamura JX-250 lathe, handles automated order changes and changes trays in the machine.

Behovet for avanceret robotautomation

HydraSpecma is the leading hydraulics company in the Nordic region, and a very strong partner for the Danish industry, the international wind industry and the offshore industry. The company is headquartered in Skjern, where more than 1200 employees work.

The good West Jutland merchant skills combined with a modern and global approach to business have ensured the company's continuous development and growth over several decades. At the same time, highly efficient production makes HydraSpecma a competitive player on the international market.

Den leverede robotcelleløsning

Just over 20 years ago, the first industrial robot landed on the production floor. It was Hans Jørgen Gam who set up the robot at a 3-axis machine. HydraSpecma had started handling some very heavy items that were becoming problematic for the workers to move around. So HydraSpecma decided to robotically automate production, and a long-standing relationship with QRS began.

Since then, several QRS robotic cells have been added, and today HydraSpecma is a great example of a company that has really moved with the times.

Automatiseret ordreskift og fleksibilitet

HydraSpecma needed a robotic cell capable of handling 3 different workpiece types and therefore 3 very different dimensions and shapes. At the same time it was a requirement that the robot cell could handle automated order changes, as the production of the 3 part types had to be kept running unmanned.

To accommodate this, the robotic cell also needed to be able to change tools and trays on the Nakamura JX-250 lathe that processes the parts. HydraSpecma therefore uses daytime working hours to supply the robot cell with raw material, in this case on both pallets and belts. The robotic cell can then keep production of the 3 part types running, as it takes care of automating order changes and preparing the machine for the next part type.

The robot can switch between 20 different robot grippers and handle 16 tools and 80 tray sets for the machine.

Integration med Nakamura JX-250

Nakamura JX 250 is the latest turning/milling centre from Nakamura. The machine has a turning diameter of ø 320 mm and a distance between the two spindle noses of 1,850 mm. It is available with one and two lower turrets both with space for 12 tools and Y-axis of +/- 40 mm.

The tool magazine holds 120 tools and the milling spindle is extremely compact at just 349 mm long. which comes with Capto C 6 or HSK 63 and 12,000 or 20,000 rpm. The control is Fanuc 31i, supported by Nakamura's Manual Guide dialog control as well as NT Smart X with a host of standard features such as cutting force monitoring, tool life management, airbag and collision guard.

The good cooperation

The robotic cell described above is a very unique solution that requires an extraordinary degree of expertise from all parties involved. We are therefore very proud to have solved the task in collaboration with MASENTIA. HydraSpecma has also been an active partner throughout the process, with a strong focus on ensuring that the CAM solution was designed in line with the other solutions in place at HydraSpecma.

Gibbscam provided the solution and helped to ensure this, as it is essential for HydraSpecma to use consistent CAM solutions on all their machines. This makes it much easier for the company to move staff around, as employees are met by the same solution regardless of where in production they are located.

It simply takes good collaboration to get as unique and complex a solution as this robotic cell right.
