Automated production facility that is able to handle 81 different items
This automated production facility from QRS can handle an impressive variety of items – as many as 81 different items run through the plant. Furthermore the production capacity is remarkable, as more than a quarter of a million items can be handled annually.

We are just finishing a very large and very complex, automated production facility for a customer, consisting of 6 individual robot cells integrated into one single solution. The cells are each equipped with our unique QRS User Interface on HMI monitors, so the operator can easily and quickly choose the type of item to be handled. The production facility can handle 81 different items, and more than a quarter of a million items will run through annually.
Because of the amount of different items and the relatively large amount to be handled, we have chosen to use Roboception technology to locate the items. Roboception takes a picture of the box containing the items, and then lets the robot know where the items are located so that it can pick them up. Basically the robot have eyes and are able to see the items, which increases the flexibility to store and collect the items dramatically. Alternatively the items had to be placed in a mechanical template that ensured an exact location. With the wide variety of items, there would have be several templates for this.

The overall solution ensures the customer several unmanned working hours, full use of existing machines, great flexibility and fast and easy conversion of the production unit as well as quality assurance among other things in the form of laser engraving and traceability of all items.
